Textile finishing includes various efforts to improve the properties of textile fabrics, whether for apparel, home, or other end uses. These processes are directed toward modifying either the fiber characteristics or the textile properties.

Woven goods require some additional steps prior to dyeing, as compared to knit goods. As the first step in finishing woven goods, singeing burns protruding fibers by passing the fabric over an open flame or heated plates to produce a cleaner fabric and enhance future operations. Hot exhaust air is produced.
